Emily Rose MawsonTravel Writer - Slow Travel and Luxury Hotels

Dreaming, travelling, writing ...

Travel writing needs to give readers a sense of place, excite the senses and provide honest advice about where to go and what to see and do. As a travel writer, I aim to capture all this in my work: to share what I have experienced in the most poetic and readable way, to help readers love what I have loved, and to delve into the real life of Europe's most beautiful regions.

Having lived in Zurich for a decade, I specialise in Switzerland with a focus on slow travel and luxury hotels, and have written on mountain high, valley low and everything in between for publications including The Telegraph, The Guardian, The Independent, National Geographic Traveller, easyJet Traveller, Discovery by Cathay Pacific, Time Out Switzerland and The Slow Lane by Inntravel.

While luxury hotels and spas often weave their way into my travel writer's heart, so do characterful, hidden, genuinely brilliant places to stay. Slow travel is my passion. I believe in conscious travelling, supporting small local businesses and eating regional food, and getting about by the slowest means possible. For me, it's not about ticking off wish lists, but about really getting to know a place. Since having my son in 2019, I have also been writing about adventures with a toddler in tow.

I graduated from the University of Manchester in 2009 with a First Class Honours BA degree in French and German (distinction in spoken French), and went on to spend two years teaching English in Innsbruck, Austria on the British Council programme.
